Conversation from another board:
QUOTE
Strange statement by local Mormons about some prophet in the world now.
I was exercising in the garage on Friday evening when these two Mormons kids in their early 20s came to my garage...they saw right away I was sweaty so they asked if they could come back later after they had introduced themselves. Strangely they originally said they had the wrong house, and was looking for some address not even on our block so who knows if that was just part of their witnessing strategies. My neighborhood is a wall jump behind the Mormon church crazy enough. All I have to do is walk across the street, and hop my neighbors backyard wall, and I’m in the back lawn of the Mormon church. So we get a lot of Mormons coming to our neighborhood trying to witness. I told them my background real fast (like in a minutes time lol) because I didn’t want them to come back and wasting their time although I already knew either they would be back or some other ones would come around again soon.

Then one of them out of the blue for no reason started saying there’s a new prophet presently in the world now. He said that there is a prophet in the world that will bring peace and unity to the world and we must all join it through the church of latter day saints to be united to the prophet. The guy wasn’t even looking at me when he said this but was staring at my garage roof with a look in his eyes like he was in a trance or something when he was saying this. It was actually a little spooky. The other Mormon didn’t say anything.

I only know the basics of Mormonism, but could someone tell me what the heck they were talking about? Is it in their D&Cs or doctrines that there’s going to be a Mormon prophet or is this a normal belief of theirs that their prophet might be here now? I’ve honestly never heard a Mormon say this before. After he said that I told them I really had to get back to my exercising since I was sweaty and dirty. The other Mormon said fine and asked if he could leave some material and come back. I said no to the material but fine they could come back another day, and then they politely left. Even if I had said no they couldn’t come back someone would of still came back because the church is right near us. But, it was just strange what the second kid had said. To any ex-Mormons out there or people who studied deep into Mormonism can you tell me what is this prophet claim they were talking about, and is it a part of their belief system or was this kid just way out there in a lala world of his own lol? Yes, they were really Mormons too, and no I’m not making this story up.

Outside of that I haven't given it much thought because I really have no interest in what Mormons or JW's say since their theology is not biblical and just freaky if you ask me so I never pay attention to what they have to say.

The Mormons believe that President Monson is God's living prophet today and that by listening and following his words they (LDS) will be led unto Christ.

However, one who is grounded in the Bible will soon see that the LDS teachings are false and that Joseph Smith was a false prophet, like all of the other LDS prophets. They will NOT accept the BIBLE to be the complete Word of God.

Truth is, we do not need a living prophet because we have Jesus. Jesus died on the cross for our sins and believing in HIM as our Savior shall we have eternal life. (John 3:16) The Lord provided us with HIS WORD. The truth is in the Bible! Having all of the additional LDS books, which also contradict each other is just Satan’s way to take our eyes off of Jesus. And what better way to do that then spread lies that the Bible is inaccurate by undermining HIS Word?

The LDS also go by the 14 Fundamentals of Ezra Taft Benson which states that the LDS are to believe the words of the living prophet. Even if those teachings contradict the teachings of a dead LDS prophet. Joseph Smith stole many verses out of the KJV and wrote them in the BoM.
If the LDS church was true and God needed Joseph Smith to restore the Gospel, why then didn’t Joseph Smith restore the Bible? They claim that the Bible is missing “lost books.”

When Joseph Smith rewrote the Bible (Inspired Version: The Holy Scriptures) that would have been Joseph’s BIG glorious moment to restore ALL of these so-called “lost and precious truths?” Nope! As a matter of fact, Joseph Smith lost another book when he left out “Song of Solomon!” Only 65 books! That book was passed down to Emma’s son, Joseph Smith III.

There are no lost books from HIS WORD. God protected HIS Word!

Is. 40:8- The Word of God shall stand forever.

Matt. 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall never pass away.

Because God is omnipotent (all powerful) HE should be able to protect HIS WORD- the Bible.
I hope that helps as far as questioning about a “prophet.”

As far as the missionary staring upwards, he is just odd, trying to feel empowered by the heavens.
I have an Aunt (temple Mormon) that lives in Utah and she actually believes that there is a special light that shines upon her house, directly from the heavens above! Some are like that.
(Pride-which is also a sin).

When Mormon Missionaries arrive at my door, out of obedience and thankfulness in Christ for delivering me out of a cult, compassion for those who are lost, I invite them in my home. They may not come back, but they had the opportunity to hear HIS Truth at least once.

Was that enough info for the person on the other board?

Another former Mormon posted in the thread, but didn't go nearly into as much detail as you did.

I just added your post to the discussion.
