a baserunner not standing on a base, being tagged with the ball and he's still not called out. Not that it would have made any difference but c'mon, how can an ump not call that?

You talking about the play at first when they showed the ump looking out towards right field? -------------------- "America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

I only heard it on the radio and I thought it was third base where they caught the runner on third base going home and the guy on second base running to third base wasn't on the bag when they tagged him. It should have been a double play because both guys were tagged when they weren't on the base and the ball was in play but the ump only called one of them out. Not that it mattered but it might have made a difference if they'd called him out. You just don't know how things would have gone after that.

It was third base and everyone was confused by that call, including the players. They knew they were out. The Umpire said he didn't look at the feet of one of them so he wasn't sure that player wasn't on base.

In one of the Angels-Yankees game the announcer commented about one of the Yankee base runners going form first to third and said he was actually out at second and called safe and safe at third and called out. -------------------- "America will never be destroyed from the outside. From everything I've heard, umps have missed a lot of calls throught the LCS, both American League and National League. I was listening to the Cal Ripken show on XM and he was very upset with the number of poor and missed calls by the Umps. He believes the umps are not positioned correctly to make the right calls. What he said made a lot of sense. His guest at the time was suggesting that instead of 6 umps on the field that perhaps they position 2 umps in the announcers box who can see things that might be missed on the field. He also thinks that some of these calls could have been made correctly by other umps on the field if the umps would call a time out and get together as in football. I think he's got valid points.

Yeah, Philadelphia got hosed on that call Thursday night when Ryan Howard would have been the next batter up but they called the runner out at first, and later showed he was safe. Maybe 6 umps on the field and another two in the announcers booth would be a good idea. -------------------- "America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."
