Our church does preach/teach the bible..

Our church has also done the RIck Warren series ..and it was wonderful and so was the affects of the studies.

I am so sick and tired of ppl complaining about Rick Warren. Reminds me of the uproar that the Gaithers caused with their 'new gospel' music and how dare ppl sing that entertainment in to our churchs...songs like "The King is coming" ..oh how ppl fell apart.
Reminds me sort of Nellie Olsens mom carrying on (LIttle house on the paririe fame)...

Its amazing when someone does 'something' different how many ppl will start waggin' their tongues. Would do us good to remember that no one but Jesus is perfect.
Praise God that one of the requirements isn't to be perfect to be saved or serve God.

Amazing how ppl are so afraid to come out of their comfort zones, espcially when it comes to churches.

When is the last time you went to a church revival or a tent meeting?

seems to me that history shows us that just about every 100 yrs or so evanglism goes thru changes..and I believe that is what is going on now. Seems to me it started with 'small groups' in Churchs, then small groups in believers homes. That was the first brewhaha that came down the pike a few years ago. Now it has gone all the way to sports evanglism.
Talk about people squawking..

ok..sorry..off my soap box and back onto track.

Praise God for Rick Warren and his service to God.

Thank God for Mother Teresa too

What I've read and seen of Rick Warren (his church is here) I'm not impressed. He stresses too much the individual and not enough God. He looks for answers in the person, not having the person look to God to find the answer, and God IS the only answer. It's based on the individual and NOT God.

Sorry, I just don't care for him or the message he sends out. I don't care if people don't want to be "scolded" in church, they need to be at times. They need to know both sides of God, the loving God that also disciplines us when needed. Too touchy-feely, not enough God.

Not every church has had good experiences with it - sometimes the "purpose-driven seeker sesnitive" aspect gets so carried away that people leave their church, because they don't recognize it anymore.

Robert Schuller was Rick Warren's mentor- and Schuller brags about being the person who "married" church and marketing.

Our church did the study and is still going over the "purposes" for individual believers, family, church ... however, our Pastor uses a LOT of scripture in his sermons as he goes over these purposes. I can see the damage done by going overboard with PDL and PDC/Warren mentality ... but I can also see a lot of good in using the study with descretion. I like our small group that meets on Friday night ... we're learning a LOT in that setting and seeing some really awesome "God things" take place.

Balance ... change is good, but going overboard is like throwing the baby out with the bath water.

Our church did the Purpose Driven Life as a Sunday School series, with the sermons following along the weekly emphasis. I was teaching children's SS at the time, so I didn't do the SS lessons although I do have the book. Our Pastor always incorporates (a lot of) Scripture in any sermon, and these were no exception.

I like the fact that Rick Warren has given back 100% of the salary he has ever earned from Saddleback to the church. I like the fact that he takes no salary from the church at the present time.

All that being said, if the Bible is not the cornerstone of the church's teachings; if Scripture is not read, believed and applied; if God isn't presented as God the Father, with no substitute; if Jesus isn't presented as the only way to salvation; and if the Holy Spirit isn't presented as the Helper that lives within us, well then, it ain't Christianity, I don't care who is teaching it.

ditto.gif to both you ladies. When you replace God with "I" and "me" then you aren't teaching Christianity. We must proclaim Jesus as our saviour loudly and clearly. Scripture tells us we must do what God wants of us and one of those things is to declare Jesus as Saviour before other men. Keep our focus on God and not on ourselves. When we focus on ourselves, we become what ECUSA is now, denying God's Truth.

I like what your church did, Donna. Bring it a lot of Scripture with it and apply it and it would probably be a great lesson. smile.gif

I used to go to that church while it was still at a High School in Calif. A few years ago, while on vacation we stopped in. I couldn't believe this HUGE church!!! Reminds you of the oh-de-do ones you see on TV. They also had valet parking!! shrug.gif

I was talking to my sister a little about the Church and Warren. She said they are now so overly extended that they use other parking lots and have a tram rides!!!

She said that she had heard something that Rick was becoming more political than need be.
She was some what offended when I shared that he is loosing focus on some things....he is more about unity...love...love...love.... and having no accountability.

I stopped reading one of his books cuz it was like a preschool book full of warm fuzzies making sure the reader was happy happy happy........no wake up calls........thats a disservice.

But like I said I used to go to that church when it first started up and many liked him and the church people. But the last time I went, it was all show.................. frusty.gif

I think a lot of Christian churches in the last days are going to loose their focus in HIS word, and look to fit-it this world just to be accepted.........

Where is the post on the Korea one that he is going to speak at???? My sister brought that up too????
